Things I learned at daycare

Today was Frankie's 3rd birthday and I spent it with her in her school; she's a Penguin (18 mo. - 3 yr olds). It was a blast. Exhausting, but a blast. Here's what I learned:

1. Frankie's level of activity is totally normal. All these guys have the metabolism of hummingbirds and absolutely no ability to focus.

2. Her teachers are among the most caring people I know.

3. Her teachers work their butts off all day long.

4. Toddlers like to make slime.

5. A toddler will identify a cup of Elmer's Glue as milk and drink it.

6. My daughter and her friends have a great deal of fun at school.

7. We could all use a nap from 1-3.

8. Kids this age play and sleep hard.

9. Her teachers are among the most caring people I know.

10. Everyone with a child in daycare should spend a day once in a while helping out and spending time with your child.

ps: Thanks for all your calls family and friends and Wiseman (who predicted Frankie's due date accurately and way in advance). Sorry we missed some of your phonecalls, it was quite a hectic affair last night.

Tomorrow, we slime

Frankie turns THREE YEARS OLD tomorrow! I'll be visiting her daycare class for the day. I'll be making slime with the class in the morning, eating brownies during the day and reading to them before nap. We'll end the day with a brief eating of the ice-cream cake (with hats of course).

I can't believe we made it this far.

Healing ... not

healingSaw this in the gutter while walking Suze this morning. Guess it didn't deliver.

Is it time to get extra toilet paper?

I've been following the Bird Flu virus stuff on Yahoo! news and don't know if I should get a couple 5 pounders or the 25 pound bag of flour this weekend (and of course, extra toilet paper). Getting kind of scary. Is a pandemic imminent? Leave your paranoid thoughts in the comments.

Next time, the Timbits on Tuesday!

Last night, I promised Frankie if she got up early and was ready to go to daycare before 7:30, I'd get her some donut holes (Timbits in these parts) for her and her friends at daycare for their snack. Well, after a somewhat turbulent wake-up and breakfast routine, we finally made it out the door with her blanket, John Lamb, her other blanket, sheet and pillow covering for naptime, another little toy and her backpack. THEN, we stopped at Tim Horton's and got her the Timbits and an extra for the road and got to daycare in good time.

Then she didn't want to come into the Penguin room.

I coax her in by doing the elephant walk and Frankie does the same laughing and sprinkling Timbits all over the carpet. Fortunately, I got the 40 pack and I think at least 30 were saved. We got in and she ran off like a wildwoman playing.

And now all I had to do was work a full day.

Maybe there'll be seats at the coffee shop now

Last Saturday Trish took Frankie for the morning while I did some grocery shopping. I made a quick stop in a local Cup 'O Joe's and found all of the tables were filled - or - half filled. There was a person sitting at nearly every table and also seated was their laptop, battery pack, extra drive, etc. It was ridiculous. I actually couldn't find a seat because of their computers. One guy even had this behemoth Seagate powerpack (or something) sitting in its own chair.

Origami to the rescue? A tiny MS full functioning computer that's really little and cute. I wonder if it'll catch on and free up some of those seats?

I also wonder how much Microsoft offered Origami.com for their domain name (incidentally, a neat site)?

I'm a sucker for goofy comedy

Sunday night, our neighbors gave Trish and I the grand opportunity to see a movie on the big screen and watched Frankie for us. Thanks guys! We went to see Capote. It was excellent, but I'm afraid the real thrill for me was the trailer for Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby with Will Ferrell as a NASCAR driver. This could just be better than Anchorman which, I'm afraid to say, was awesome.
