Game Over. buyer / seller lose, Ebay wins.

My auction of a $25 gift card is over. It ended at $26.50. The code used for the $25 credit was emailed to the buyer and feedback on both sides turned in.

With Paypal and Ebay fees, I lost a net $2 and the buyer lost $1.50. I'm not sure why this fascinates me, but the phenomena is reproducible and totally irrational. Even when studying the profiles of the bidders (the bidders who bid AFTER the $25 was reached - and there were a few!) doesn't reveal much.

There's something here.

Not a bad first week.

The biggest complaint she told me is that Isaiah adds orange or apple juice to his milk, swirls it, and drinks it down.  I guess things could be worse.

The amateur behavioral economist

Long ago, I posted a table of irrational behavior I observed on Ebay.  Buyers often buy gift cards, e.g., Amazon and Walmart, for a price greater than their face value.  It's been a while since that obsession; I peeked the other day to see how the supply of dumb people was holding up.

Alive and multiplying - here's a clip of some completed sales:

The first entry is a $25 dollar card, 8 bids, SOLD for $39
The second is a $200 card, BUY IT NOW, sold for $228.99
(Click image to see it larger, sorry poor resolution, but those are real results)

I should not be surprised, but I am.  I checked at Amazon and learned I can buy a $25 gift card and send it to any address I please for only $25.  No commission, no shipping.  I could not resist:

Wow, a bike really gets your heart going

I haven't been riding in forever.  My riding preferences have changed in recent years.  I'm super casual and ride my bike really slow.  I like to look at the scenery more than I like to get someplace fast.  So, given my ultra casual mindset, I wrote it off as a calorie burning endeavor.

Today, the Mrs took care of the kid and I got to ride to work, around at lunch and then home.  This is my ride home.  About 40 minutes.  I forget my average speed, but it was slow, yet I still got an average of approximately 120 bpm when I used my heart rate datalogger.  I went from work to Giant Eagle and then home.  Mostly all up a gradual hill, but not a bad workout.  I'm pretty psyched to have another exercise to alleviate the boredom of cardio.

Rent-a-Sibling.com?

I spent the past 4 days with Frankie morning to night. I'm now sitting in front of a tv in pain. Feeling a bit bad about her not having a sib (or a younger father), I treated her as a workout buddy and tried to keep up . . . for 4 straight days. We swam for hours, ran stairs, played a lot of Uno (but they were fast games), walked lots (with her on my shoulders) and snacked all over the city. Lots of fun, but I feel a bit old. At least I don't have to worry about missing the gym this week.
