If Walmart and McDonald's had a baby, its name would be Sodexo. And then they'd put it in a cardboard box and place it in the trash.

Sodexo has apparently won the contract for the distribution of bland concoctions of fat for our children in Columbus City Schools. Frankie has gone from wanting the school lunch 4-5 times a month to about 2 times a month. Given the bland palate that infests nearly every 2-7 year old, even Sodexo should be embarrassed. Yet, they keep cranking out deadly bits of sweetened beef, sweetened sauces, sweetened and cured fruit in sweet sauce, sweetened tomato sauce on sweetened bread with wax on it, etc. I didn't even see my favorite school lunch food on the menu this month; they murdered the tater tot. Columbus City Schools have been good to us, we're grateful. Sodexo is just the contractor who undoubtedly lined some pockets to get the job. It's a shame.

Sodexo runs the cafeterias in our buildings. While they can order good bagels and brew good coffee (with the Starbucks ingredients and equipment), EVERY cooked-in-house item on the food menu causes me intense indigestion within minutes.

how hard can it be to provide tater tots? Life without tater tots = tragic

Seems like taking all current knowledge about nutrition and health and doing the opposite. If cost is the prime consideration for your board then shifting it from the school system to the health care system actually increases costs. I look forward to hearing about yours and Frankie's presentation at the next board meeting.

I'm afraid this is a case where complaining about a system is more satisfying than trying to change it. Public education can be great, but it local systems can't change simply from user input. I tried to be a teacher about 3 times in my life and gave up. The system fits or it doesn't; nothing can make it change.
