Quick, need help

Tipping is one of the most awkward acts I know. I got a couple hardworking and considerate HVAC guys redoing our home (duct, furance replacement, etc.). Real hard working and doing it as if it's their home and explaining every step of the way to me. Professionals, no doubt. Is a tip insulting to a professional or would it be appreciated? They'll be finished around 2, reply in comments if you could. Thanks!

Got a poll up on hvac-talk.com and currently have 29/4 in favor so far.

ALways tip. Dad always said that. I even tip the gas station kid in the winter because if it wasn't for them, I'd have to pump the gas myself. Most of the time it's just a dollar, but when you tell them it's for them, their eyes light up.

Hi Denise, I remember that. Having worked in a gas station (for two days in the cold), that was an amazing gesture.

I think it's nice to tip, especiallly if they work for someone else; also, if they are nice, clean up, and give you some advice and get the work done in a timely manner I always think it's nice. Plus I always appreciate a surprise tip.

That's the tricky part, I don't know if it would be a surprise or expected.

I can't remember a time when I've offered a tip and it has been refused. For me, the tricky part is "how much?"

"how much?"
Indeed, a tougher question.

I hate this tipping stuff. But I do it all the time. I say definitely tip. Maybe 10 bucks a guy? Too little? Too much? I usually just hand it over and say "get yourself some coffee on me" as a way to make it less awkward.

Nice guys, yeah. Everything was going great, and all of a sudden there's a register in my closet that looks like an insane person installed it, and while installing, put the jigsaw down on my beautiful, newly refinished hardwood floors WHILE IT WAS STILL ON.

I got a tip for ya, buddies: TURN OFF YOUR TOOLS WHEN YOUR AREN'T USING THEM.
